'Vagina Monologues' in Filipino, Fil-Am accents

NEW YORK-It was like coming to an all-female party I was not invited to. They file in quietly, all 15 of them lined up with their backs turned. They take turns facing the crowd to bring up women's issues on the center stage.

Anything can happen in this Filipino version of "The Vagina Monologues." After all, it is being staged at the Philippine Consulate on Fifth Ave. and the women are fighting for a cause.

The play has been reviewed by many women. After all, it is their story. It's good that I have finally gotten to watch the play, many years late I may be, knowing how both the source of pain and joy of women are inextricably linked with men, too. It is, in a sense, an occasion men should both attend in and attend to.
